I Love Me Some Glitter
I heart glitter. Always have. Always will. It’s sparkly and fun, and really fabulous if you wear it well.
My never ending love for it, is part of why I’m desperate to get into music video’s and fantasy make-up, because then I can use it as much as I want without limitations.
I actually try to wear glitter as often as I can because at 26 years old, I’m beginning to feel like my time to do so is running out. I can’t be the woman who is STILL wearing glitter at 30. Not that 30 is OLD. Because it isn’t. I just sometimes think that I won’t be able to wear glitter in the same way once I’ve tied the bow on my twenties.
I love it so much that it’s everywhere: In my purse, in my sheets, in the carpet, trapped in the fur of my dog…EVERYWHERE. And, as someone pointed out in the comment section just the other day – Sometimes it even ends up on other people that I’m with. To all the boys I know, I’m sorry about that. However, you should know that I do laugh a little bit to myself every time I see a glimmer of shimmer on your nose or forehead.
I can’t help myself. I just love glitter THAT much. Seeing it anywhere always warms my heart, even if the person wearing it didn’t really intend to be wearing it to begin with.
With that said, my current love is Make-Up Forever Diamond Powder. It’s super refined – so it’s not your disco glitter of the 70s, or even your club kid glitter of the 90s. This is glitter’s big sister.
My favorite colors: Bronze 4 (true copper shimmer), Pink 9 (hot pink shimmer), Smoky 15 (taupe gray shimmer), White Gold 2 (white with gold shimmer).
OMFG: SARAH PALIN

First, I must acknowledge her little one wearing a tiara with her arms folded in a very surly manner. LOVE HER. She’s going to rule the world someday. I’m sure of it.
Moving on…
I don’t know much about this woman except that she’s McCain’s VP pick. I think she’s gorgeous and I am flipping out over whatever lipstick/lip gloss combo she is using.
She’s totally working that sexy, librarian look. Flawless.
I don’t know when women in politics started looking so fierce, but I’m totally loving this election
When Bad Make-up Happens to Good People: Even Future MUA’s
I’ve been cleaning. All summer.
While re-organizing one of my junk drawers (Check it…I’ve got 3), I stumbled across the following picture:
That’s me. My Junior year of High School. With my very first boyfriend, who incidentally briefly dated my old roommate last year. His name was Andrew. My old roommate, I mean.
But, I digress…
OMFG: HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON
Hillary. Rodham. Clinton.
I know I’m going to get heat for this. But, she’s my girl…And, I could not be more proud of her after her incredible speech at the DNC last night. She delivered a speech with strength, intelligence, a bit of humor (hello pant suits?), and a whole lot of class and grace.
And for those of you (Hi Sarah) who want to nit pick and say that her voice makes you cringe, or that you cant stand her because she’s dishonest and blah blah blah…
WHATEVER. This woman is smart. And, she’s also really kind of fabulous.
Sometimes I look at her and think she’s amazing. And, last night I not only thought she was amazing, but I also thought that she, quite literally, LOOKED amazing.
I swear that her face has never looked better. What a FLAWLESS airbrushing job on her foundation, and an even better job on the contouring of her face…And the lipstick…My friend (and sometimes assistant) Melissa and I are both DYING to know what red she uses.
Well done Hillary. I love you, and your red lipstick. Forever.
My Momma Does Not Want Me Shakin’ What She Gave Me
Latin culture is very sexy. Incase you did not know.
It’s also somewhat (to a point of conflict) very conservative.
For example…Growing up, my mother was all about glamour and beauty and all things feminine. I would watch her set her hair every week and sit under a giant bubble hair dryer for HOURS (that we had in our own home, by the way). She also never left the house without make-up…And, could often be caught doing some kind of face mask or steam treatment thing at any given time. She also always wore ’slimming undergarments’ (Think Spanx but like way before Spanx) even though she wasn’t ever fat. It was just a ‘latin thing’ – And my father would take her periodically to this spot in Brooklyn called Olga’s to pick out a new “cintura” so she could look extra fly in whatever dress she was wearing to whatever family event was happening at that particular time.
Q & A: The Roundup Edition
Sorry for the lack of updates. I was really on a roll for a few days – And then, that allergy/sinus thing I mentioned a few days ago morphed into a full on infection.
I’m better now and getting back into the swing of things, but not feeling very inspired.
Forgive me for taking the easy way out and just posting a bunch of Q & A’s…But, I get a lot of these. And, this week in particular I had quite a few that came to me in various ways…About a variety of things.
Anyway, here you go:
How Make-up Saved Me from Myself
If you read this regularly then you know some of the basics of my life. I’m a make-up artist who once worked in advertising – With my current life being pretty enviable.
What you might not know is that I also used to be depressed and my life was once anything but enviable.
When I say I was depressed, I don’t mean in the over dramatic ‘OMG I HATE MY LIFE RIGHT NOW’ kind of way. More in the way of my doctor dropping this bomb on me: ‘I think you might be suffering from depression.’
I’m talking the real deal here. Not some over dramatized woah is me point in my life…But real, sad, dark, terrifying, hopeless depression.
OMFG: ALEXIS BLEDEL
Confession: I LOVED the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”
Go ahead – Have at me if you like. I don’t care.
Here is Alexis Bledel at the premiere for the sequel (Which I will not watch. Maybe). Please ignore the dress and try to focus on her face. I know it’s difficult since her tissue paper/ribbon/peanut butter cup cluster fuck of a dress is very distracting.
She’s working the hot pink lip color thing which is hard to pull off unless you’re Christina Aguilera.
See…Here is Christina wearing it in a totally different way. But, it doesn’t qualify as an OMFG post because I don’t think there is anything that Xtina can not wear.
Anyway, if you want to get in on the trend these are my product recommendations:
Paula Dorf Lip Cream, Ipanema (As I write this and search for a link, it seems that this has been discontinued which I am not ok with since I ACTUALLY WEAR THIS)
Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited, Hot Fuschia Pink (Sometimes this is sold out, but no worries – You can still get this it just might take some leg work)
Mac Lipstick, Impassioned, Lustering, and Girl About Town (This should be easy to find since it’s MAC and they are EVERYWHERE)
Now, please excuse me. I have a lipstick to hunt down before I have a panic attack.
Quick Q & A Twitter Style: Smoky Eye
Q:
@makeupartist want to do a dramatic smoky eye for tomorrow night. Have: some tools and supplies, willing to get more. Need: clue as to how.
A:
@shoot_the_moon you need one dark shadow and a black eyeliner and mascara…then blend blend blend!
@shoot_the_moon use your fingers only. Put a layer of shadow then liner, then smudge liner, then reapply liner. Top with mascara & done!
