An Open Love Letter

Dear H & M,

I don’t always like your clothes.

Occasionally I like them on other people. Unfortunately, they usually don’t fit me that well.  I try not to take it personally since I know that you’re a Swedish retailer, and your clothing is likely made with tall Nordic types in mind – Not teeny tiny Puerto Rican girls with curves.  I also strongly dislike the fact that everything in your store comes in one of 8-10 colors.  I particularly hate the red that you use because I feel like it’s so highly identifiable, and I don’t need the world knowing for sure where I purchased something from.

This past weekend, I was really itching to shop.  I’ve been sick for a few weeks, and I really wanted to indulge in a little retail therapy to lift my spirits out of the shame of sickness.  Despite the fact that I walked all parts of 5th Avenue, as well as  the Bowery, I didn’t have much shopping success that weekend.

Just as I was about to throw in the towel and head home empty handed, I remembered that I always liked your hair ties.  I ducked in to the nearest location and as soon as I entered my eyes were immediately blinded by the “H & M red” that I dislike so much.  This almost made me leave, but I pressed on and made my way to the accessory section.

I didn’t see a single hair tie.  Not a one.  This was highly disappointing.

Discouraged, I grabbed a scarf.  I didn’t really need a scarf, but I told myself that it’s freezing in NYC and that helped me to justify the purchase.  The truth is that I just wanted to buy something – anything – So that my day wouldn’t feel like a complete waste.

Then I got on line behind a bunch of European tourists, and also a woman with a DOUBLE BABY CARRIAGE and also SCREAMING KIDS…And suddenly, one scarf did not seem like a substantial purchase.

Thankfully, you very conveniently place bins full of random things leading up to the checkout line.  That was the moment I began digging…

My efforts produced 2 lip glosses, a bracelet, and a nail polish.  The lip gloss was decent but nothing to write home about, and the bracelet was more of the same…

Now the nail polish?  OMG…Your nail polish is on point.  Not only is the color the prettiest shade of pink that I’ve seen in a long time, but it’s been 3 days and I don’t have any chips to speak of.

This is a really rare occurrence because my nail polish always chips after 3 minutes and I can’t remember the last time I went completely chip free for THREE DAYS.

Basically, I just wanted to let you know that I’m a fan.  I can’t wait to go back and buy it in every color that I can find – Except for H & M red.  Please don’t ever make it in that red.  If you do, I might have to get angry and I don’t want our relationship to turn volatile because I think we’re in a really good place right now.

Anyway, thanks for making ‘I’m A Saint.’

I am in love with it.

xx,

Jillian

OMFG: HAVE YOU SEEN THIS PRODUCT?

I love oil, and I use some form of it every day, whether I’m cooking, moisturizing, cleansing…Oil always gets the job done.

But with the weather in New York finally warming up, all the oil that I love to use on my skin is getting a little bit greasy. Luckily, there are plenty of dry oil options – And they’re all really fabulous.  I especially like the Neutrogena Rainbath Dry Oil Spray.

Anyway, just a few weeks ago while perusing the web for new beauty finds, I came across the following little gem:  Johnson’s baby Oil LITE.

Supposedly, it’s a dry oil type thing.  But, with all the gentle goodness of the Johnson’s baby oil that everyone loves and trusts.  The only problem is that this oil is reportedly only available in the Asian market.

My friend Angeli suggested that I may be able to track down this ‘must-have’ product in Chinatown.  Can anyone confirm a sighting of this oil in Chinatown, or anywhere else in the U.S.?

I would KILL to get my hands on this.  I think it would also be amazing for removing eye makeup :)

Sightings?  Thoughts?  Suggestions?

OMFG: I love GG and Lubriderm

My roommate and I love some Gossip Girl.  Monday nights are major in our apartment, and we can’t get enough of the GG cast.  New York magazine was totally right when they declared it the ‘BEST. SHOW. EVER.’

Every time I think the story lines can not get any more ridiculous…They do.  And I am LOVING the whole ‘Dan/Serena share a sibling who is supposedly deceased but totally alive’ drama and I’m dying to see how that one plays itself out this season.

But the thing that really makes Gossip Girl a truly guilty pleasure, are all the beauty indulgences we get to partake in for one solid hour every week.  My roommate usually does her nails, and I usually take the hour to do a face mask – We are super girly girls and watching Gossip Girl makes it all that much more fun to engage in a power hour of beauty.  Despite the fact that we’re multi-tasking whilst watching our favorite guilty pleasure, we are 100% dedicated to our friends Chuck and Blair (How bad do you want to see them together already?), and until this week I can’t think of anything that has derailed our focus from our favorite Upper East Siders.

This week after braving some fiercely frigid winter days, I decided to forgo my usual face mask, and give a little TLC to my hands.  My digits have taken a beating this season, and I’ve been on the hunt for a hand cream that will make them look (and feel) a lot less like they’ve been beaten to death by the elements.  And for the first time ever, a product came along that was so amazing, it actually made us come to a pause.

Advanced Therapy Hand Cream from Lubriderm is a new product designed to not only protect your hands, but also heal them.  It’s not greasy, lasts through hand washing (really, it does), and provides 24 hour moisture.  Enriched with vitamins, nutrients and  antioxidants – This stuff is the real deal.  My hands instantly felt smoother and softer and the improved texture was so amazing that I could not stop applying it obsessively throughout the program.  Even my roommate (who is a very fussy consumer) was hooked and has been loving how effective and gentle this formula is.

I realize I’m a makeup artist, and I usually try and keep my product reviews focused on cosmetics and skin care.  However, I also believe the only other thing worse than an old face is old hands (Ok maybe saggy boobs are on the same level, but, that goes without saying).  If you read this blog regularly you know that I swear by skin care.  Make-up can not look good at any age, if you’re not taking care of your skin.  Like Madonna once said, ‘eventually we’re all going to get old and shrivel up and die’ – But, why should we get there any sooner than expected?  That’s why I think it’s important to fight the good fight against pre-mature aging.  People usually think their face is the only place that shows their age, but did you know that after your neck your hands are one of the first areas that can show signs of aging?

OK, so now you know, and now you can go and pick up some of this really fabulous hand cream.  Do it.  Now.

xoxo

OMFG: ‘Not Fergie But Still A Video’ Edition

I haven’t done one of these in a while…Mostly because I’m too busy trying to be focused on my own work to notice a job well done by others lately.

Usually I reserve an OMFG post for a celebrity with make-up that I would die for.  Those celebs are usually working the red carpet, although there may have been one or two times that I’ve referenced a magazine.

In any case, there has only been one OMFG post in which I have referenced a music video.  Sometime back in the summer I posted a link to a video of the Fergie x Nelly callabo “Party People’, where she’s got these insane, cherry red, glossy lips that are BANANAS. If you are unfamiliar with this video, you should know that they look so delicious that I’m STILL dying over how fabulous they are.  (Side Note: If you still haven’t seen that video yet, you can still peep it on youtube here.  Do it.).

Anyway, I haven’t posted a video in this category since then.  There also hasn’t been an OMFG post in a minute (Not since Alexis Bledel rocked fuschia lipstick on the red carpet at the Pantapalooza Traveling Sisterhood sequel).

Now, what I’m about to do is really rare.  I’m about to post a video – And an OMFG post – With…boys (gasp!).  I know.

OK so, watch the boys (They’re friends of a friend and are actually quite lovely)…And then freak out over the girl (Her make-up is AMAZING).

P.S: GLITTER.  There is mad glitter in this video.  GLITTER!!! I. Love. It.

OMFG: SARAH PALIN

First, I must acknowledge her little one wearing a tiara with her arms folded in a very surly manner.  LOVE HER.  She’s going to rule the world someday.  I’m sure of it.

Moving on…

I don’t know much about this woman except that she’s McCain’s VP pick.  I think she’s gorgeous and I am flipping out over whatever lipstick/lip gloss combo she is using.

She’s totally working that sexy, librarian look.  Flawless.

I don’t know when women in politics started looking so fierce, but I’m totally loving this election :)
