CHA-CHA-CHA-CHANGESSS!

So this blog is about a year old.  The new site isn’t quite at the year mark yet (Not until October), but the blog is (I migrated it over from blogspot).

I’ve decided going forward that I’m going to be blogging about anything and everything that I want.  As much as beauty is my passion, I’m also equally passionate abut my own life.  And if I’m going to be able to continue to update this blog regularly, I’m going to have to start including other content that isn’t always related to beauty.

And seriously, with every girl out there being a product whore, beauty blogs are a dime a dozen.  Sure my advice is ACES – I mean, I am a legit professional – But, why would you come here to read about the same products you could read about somewhere else.  Sure, I am way more interesting and entertaining than they are – But, I don’t like being like EVERYONE ELSE.

There will still be blogs about beauty.  It’s my job, it’s my passion, it’s the thing that pays my bills.  But, my love of beauty has been influenced by so much more than standard product reviews.  My life IS my work, and it’s in every single face that I create.  So why not write about the life experiences that have shaped the artist I’ve become?

I hope you’re not mad.

If you’re apprehensive about the switch, let me give you a few reasons why this change is going to be a GOOD thing:

CORRECTION: twitter.com/MAKEUPARTIST

If you were on my email blast yesterday, then you may have noticed that I provided an incorrect link to my twitter page.

My bad.  I try my hardest to spell check and proof read…And, in general, make sure that everything is perfect.  But, it’s not easy running a one woman show – You feel me?  Occasionally things get stupid and complicated on my end: Like when my contact list loads with quotes around every single email address, which makes it impossible to send any emails unless I go in and manually remove each of the random quotes.  Yesterday, that task took me an hour, and my eyeballs felt like they might fall out from ‘quote removal’ OVERLOAD, and I totally made a gaffe. I’m human, and sometimes it happens.

Anyway, I made an oops and wanted to make it right by providing the correct link to my twitter page.

Q & A: Big Strong Brows

I haven’t done one of these in a while…

And this one is extra special because it was sent in from KAT via TWITTER which she supposedly HATES, but clearly finds ADDICTIVE and USEFUL.

She writes: So I am obsessed with Big strong eyebrows right now…I may need your assistance…maybe you’ll come over …I need some good brow advice…mine are thin and light and I tint them from time to time, I guess I need a good browliner and powder…whadda ya think? I do alright sketching em in…but could be better.

My response is this:

Dear Kat,

The obvious answer is to grow them in.  Obviously this is best.

If they don’t grow in very full (from too many years of plucking, tweezing, whatevs) then yes, you should fill them in.  I do not like pencil.  Actually, let me rephrase that: I HATE BROW PENCIL.

It is harsh, and will make you look severe.

I personally like powders or creams.  My favorite budget product is from Sonia Kashuk and it’s only 10 dollars at Target.  It comes in a quad with 4 colors so you can custom blend the perfect shade for you (I use this in my kit and swear by it). My second favorite, higher end selection is from Vince Longo – And if you move fast you can get it on sale at Sephora because Sephora is going to stop carrying the line soon.

Use a small, hard edged angle brush to apply the product (I like one from MAC and have linked it here). The key is to start with a little bit of product and build on it until you get the desired effect keeping in mind that with brows a little bit of product goes a long way.

Links to both products are below.

And, I will happily come by and demo proper eyebrow filling – But only if you admit that twitter is amazing.  Oh…and Staci has to make Shepards pie.  Those are my terms.

Good luck!

This Explains The Fabulous Lip Gloss

This was sent to me from @overthinker via Twitter.

A really interesting read.  Who knew make-up artists were so valuable to a political campaign, that they would be the highest paid person on staff!?

Quick Q & A Twitter Style: Smoky Eye

Q:

@makeupartist want to do a dramatic smoky eye for tomorrow night. Have: some tools and supplies, willing to get more. Need: clue as to how.

A:

@shoot_the_moon you need one dark shadow and a black eyeliner and mascara…then blend blend blend!

@shoot_the_moon use your fingers only. Put a layer of shadow then liner, then smudge liner, then reapply liner. Top with mascara & done!
