NEW HAIR!
I cut my hair last week.
This is huge as I haven’t had a proper cut in MONTHS.
4 years ago I started Japanese straightening my hair. HUGE MISTAKE. I suppose it suited me at the time. I was working some stupid hours: Waking up crazy early to do makeup at a morning news show, and then working the 9-5 grind in advertising. At that point in my life I barely had energy – And taking time to do my hair was the last thing I wanted to do when I would wake up at 4 am.
At the time I started thermol reconditioning, I also had a boyfriend who preferred my hair straight…And back then I was all into my relationship and acting silly and really not myself (I know, it makes me want to vomit too). My friends had even started calling me ‘Stepford Jillian.’
Thankfully I’ve come to my senses, and I’m 100% me. I’ll never let go of my identity again. EVER. Now that I work for myself (It’s been 2 years since I started freelancing, can you believe that!?), and I’ve rediscovered who I am and what I feel passionately about, I decided that fake straight business no longer suites me.
While it’s been great and empowering to finally be able to say I know who I am, getting back to my roots (literally), has been no easy task. The ‘growing out’ process has been a real bitch, and at the present time two thirds of my hair is curly and the ends are still straight.
This was becoming a major problem on days that I didn’t feel like blow drying my hair. I started wearing lots of hats to cover up the mess, and the other day I decided I really needed to take action and do something to make my hair more presentable. So what’s a girl to do when she doesn’t want to cut her hair short, but she needs to cut off as much hair as possible to speed up the ‘growing out’ process?
This!
It’s a little Cyndi Lauper, don’t you think?
Not having hair on the right side is definitely weird – And, also kind of liberating. It’s also got me seriously considering chopping all my hair off for the first time in my life. But, baby steps. I’ll keep this for a bit, and revisit my short hair thought later this summer.
I know I always tell you what make-up I’m wearing when I post a photo of myself. In this case, I would if I could…But, I’m not wearing any. In fact that’s me in my pink polka dot sleep shirt – Just moments after waking up.
I’m usually not into taking pictures sans make-up (makes me feel naked), but everyone around me was DYING to see my hair cut, so I put my best natural face forward and snapped a pic!
Am I the only one who doesn’t like being bare faced in pictures? Or do you ladies feel the same way?
New Year. New Room. Busted Computer. Bad Hair.
2009 is off to a weird start – And I realize I fell off the grid a bit, but between settling into the new year, moving into a new room, a busted computer and a brief hair emergency (It turned ORANGE. No lie), I have been way too preoccupied to even attempt to keep up here.
The logic board on my Macbook crapped out, and it took 2 weeks to get repaired which is why the blog went silent for a while. But my little Macbook is back, and I’m getting back into the grind: Check out the Women’s Gallery for a bunch of new images that were uploaded yesterday!
As for my hair – It’s back to dark after turning NEON ORANGE following an impulsive decision to go blonde. In case you’re thinking of trying to go blonde too, my advice is not to even think about doing it yourself. That box bleach is DISASTROUS, and I was really asking for trouble the moment I slapped that shit on my head.

Thank God for Philip B haircare. Without the Peppermint & Avocado Shampoo and Light Weight Deep Conditioning Rinse, I really think my hair might have fallen out. If your hair is in need of a little extra TLC I highly recommend these products – They are LOADED with plant extracts and oils and will revive even the most damaged locks back to life.
Anyway, check the blog often for updates, which will be coming regularly again. Promise.
